In October of 2020, the Barkhamsted Housing Trust (BHT) purchased land at 104 Old New Hartford Road near Mallory Brook Plaza, thanks to funding support from a state grant and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).

There will be 20 new apartments constructed on this site - a mix of 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units., in 5 farmhouse-style buildings.

BHT worked with a team of architects and engineers to finalize the site plan and designs. A contractor for the initial infrastructure work was selected through a competitive procurement process and site work begin in May 2026. Bids have also been accepted for the main project construction and a contractor will be selected in summer 2026. The next step will be to use the bid pricing to apply for construction funding from the CT Department of Housing. Once that is awarded, construction can begin!

These apartments will be available to individuals and families with a household income of 80% or less of the Area Median Income (approximately $64,000 for an individual and $92,000 for a family of 4). The units will be sustainable and energy efficient (solar panels will likely be incorporated into the design).
