In October of 2020, the Barkhamsted Housing Trust (BHT) purchased land at 104 Old New Hartford Road near Mallory Brook Plaza, thanks to funding support from a state grant and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC).

There will be 20 new apartments constructed on this site - a mix of 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units., in 5 farmhouse-style buildings.

BHT is currently working with a team of architects and engineers in order to finalize the designs. The next step will be to request construction funding from the Department of Housing (will likely apply for funding in Spring 2024).

These apartments will be available to individuals and families with a household income of 80% or less of the Area Median Income (approximately $64,000 for an individual and $92,000 for a family of 4). The units will be sustainable and energy efficient (solar panels will likely be incorporated into the design).
